This is what I was doing the day you were born, lost at nightfall at 17,000ft.
In Boston, your terrified father cupped you in his palms, 1lb.15oz. You lived.
The greatest lie of adulthood is that we know what we’re doing.
We are all beginners.

Jenny O’Connell’s book project, Finding Petronella, traces her solo trek across Finland in the footsteps of a female Lappish gold legend. Her work has appeared in or is forthcoming from Camas, Slice Magazine, and The Stonecoast Review, and was featured in the island art installation Surface First Tilts West. She earned her Masters in Creative Writing from Stonecoast MFA.
