Aftermath

The Photographer (Aftermath) is a series of candid photos taken in the summer of 2022 during a road trip to Las Vegas, Nevada. 2 days before the trip, the area had befell record rainfall and flooding. The highway was covered in traces of the aftermath, and with lightning flashing in the distance it seemed that water finally came to the desert.

Ruth Snipes grew up in Missouri and joined the military after high school, graduating with a degree in English from the Naval Academy in 2018. She always loved taking photos of her environment as a child (her father was also a photographer), and when stationed overseas she became the ship’s photographer. A photo from her time abroad won Honorable Mention in the Missouri Humanities Council and Southeast Missouri State University Press “Proud to Be” series publication in 2021.
