Postcards: Portland Again

D’you remember that night we abandoned the car? We slid through the ice storm to
The Governor Hotel. Everything glittered – the wires, the streets, you and me.
So strange to be back in this city where we fell, in more ways than one, and you long
gone.

I’m a writer and journalist, originally from Scotland, now based in Toronto and Glasgow. My first book, travel memoir The Scottish Ambassador, came out in 2015. My work has won a Northern Lights Award for Excellence in Travel Writing (2007), been a finalist for the Tom Howard Essay Prize (2016) and Creative Non Fiction (2017), and been longlisted for Penguin Random House Write Now (2017).
