A man just kissed the glass bottle Heinz and knocked it against a bite
of tenderloin. The bar is coaching the bartender through a Gin and
Juice while the TV shows border drug busts. Dale has spent today
burning brush. We both blink a stool apart, swallowing diesel.
Avery Gregurich: I live and work in Des Moines, Iowa. I wrote this postcard from the Twisted Corn Tavern because the man next to me said he had been drinking there for 50 years, and they still made him pay. The brush fire smoke on his clothes made the whole bar smell like it was on fire. I wanted to send my partner a postcard that smelled like that smoke.
